These ThermoWood brushed decking boards combine a wire-brushed face finish with an edge groove for secret fix installation using BROfix hidden decking fasteners. The wire-brushing process removes the soft grain from the board face, leaving the harder grain raised — creating a naturally textured surface with improved grip underfoot and a tactile, characterful finish that sits between the clean lines of our smooth 26x140mm board and a heavily profiled deck.
Like all boards in our ThermoWood secret fix range, the BROfix clip fits into the edge groove at each joist position and is fixed with a single stainless steel screw — fully concealed beneath the next board. No visible fixings on the face, no rusting screw heads, just clean timber from edge to edge.

Wire-brushing is a mechanical process applied to the board face after machining. A rotating wire brush removes the softer early wood grain, leaving the denser late wood grain standing proud. The result is a lightly textured surface that enhances the natural character and movement of the timber, improves grip underfoot in wet conditions, and takes oils and stains more evenly than a smooth-planed face.
On ThermoWood — which has a warm, deep brown tone from the thermal modification process — a wire-brushed finish brings out the grain pattern particularly well, giving the deck a natural, high-quality appearance without looking artificially distressed.
All three boards in our ThermoWood secret fix range use BROfix hidden fasteners and produce a completely screw-free deck surface. The choice between them comes down to face finish and board width:
The grooved 26x117mm board has a grooved face profile and a narrower width — suited to more traditional deck layouts or where additional surface texture is required.
The smooth 26x140mm board has a flat, refined face — best suited to contemporary architectural projects where a minimal, clean finish is the priority.
This brushed 26x140mm board sits between the two — the wider face of the smooth board, with the added texture and natural grain character of the wire-brushed finish. It is a good all-round choice for residential gardens, terraces, and outdoor living spaces where both aesthetics and practical grip matter.
Secret fix systems rely on consistent board geometry. If boards warp or cup after installation, the hidden clips are placed under stress and the flat surface is lost. ThermoWood is treated above 180°C without chemicals, permanently reducing the timber's ability to absorb and release moisture. The boards move significantly less across the seasons than untreated softwood — keeping the deck flat and the BROfix system performing as designed.
ThermoWood achieves a natural durability of Class 1–2 without chemical preservatives and requires no annual retreatment to perform in full UK outdoor exposure.
These boards are designed for use with BROfix hidden decking fasteners — sold separately in packs of 300, used at 2.2 clips per linear metre. For 26x140mm boards, divide your deck area (m²) by 0.140 to get total linear metres, then multiply by 2.2 and add 10% for wastage.
Use stainless steel A2 screws — 4.2 x 42 mm, Torx 20 head — to fix BROfix clips to the joists. Do not use zinc-plated or galvanised screws with ThermoWood as they can cause surface staining.

ThermoWood requires no treatment to maintain its structural integrity outdoors. Left untreated the boards will silver to a uniform grey over time. The wire-brushed face accepts oils and stains particularly well — apply a UV-stable decking oil before installation to retain the warm brown tone and reapply periodically. We stock Remmers and Koopmans wood oils and stains suitable for ThermoWood decking. Always seal cut ends with an end-grain sealer or decking oil immediately after cutting.
Wire-brushing removes the soft grain from the board face, leaving the harder grain raised. The result is a lightly textured surface that improves grip underfoot, enhances the natural timber character, and takes oil and stain treatments more evenly than a smooth face.
These boards are designed for use with BROfix hidden decking fasteners. The clip locates into the edge groove and is fixed to the joist below, automatically setting a 6 mm expansion gap with no visible fixings on the deck face.
Both are 26x140mm ThermoWood with an edge groove for BROfix installation. The smooth board has a flat, refined face for a minimal finish. The brushed board has a wire-brushed face with raised grain — more texture, more character, and better grip underfoot.
No treatment is required to maintain structural performance. The wire-brushed face accepts oils and stains particularly well. Applying a UV-stable oil before installation will help retain the warm brown colour. We stock Remmers and Koopmans wood oils suitable for ThermoWood.
BROfix clips are used at 2.2 per linear metre. For 26x140mm boards, divide your deck area in m² by 0.140 to get linear metres, then multiply by 2.2. Add 10% wastage. BROfix clips are sold in packs of 300.
